Pierre Culot (1938–2011) was a Belgian ceramicist and sculptor. After training with Antoine de Vinck and English master potter Bernard Leach, he worked to build a bridge between British, Japanese and French traditions. He passionately expressed his resolution to be in the world, to be on Earth and in nature, which he understood as the sole generator of life and beauty. Throughout his life he remained faithful to his earliest experiences as a potter, evolving his ceramic works from basic forms (bowls, plates, jugs) to more daring shapes (cruciform vases, gourds, compound pots, inkwells). Shifting his imagination beyond functionality, he created sculptures and by composing outdoor sculpture-walls moved into the landscape.
