NORDIC ART & WAY OF LIFE responds to the need to understand the Nordic art scene from an in-depth perspective. It provides a rich view of the history of the collections, art education and the role of the arts in society in Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark (1820-1920). Focusing on the development of Nordic art through its most characteristic themes, it introduces a broad range of women and men artists, the famous and the less well known.
The book is edited by Dr. Susanna Pettersson and Dr. Anna-Maria von Bonsdorff, both established academics and museum professionals in Finland, who have published widely on the subject.
They have curated numerous exhibitions for audiences across the world, telling the story of Nordic art.
The contributing authors include leading experts from the Nordic countries and the UK. Together with the editors, they have created a multilayered and rich narrative.
